As Chairman of the Cowes Business Association, I would like to make it clear that the A4 survey sheet being circulated around Cowes is not an official document from the CBA although the heading at the top of the page does seem to have been copied from our official logo, without the CBAs permission. We are aware of the individuals behind this unofficial survey, and have been in talks with them trying to help, prior to this documents production. Both the Cowes Town Council and the CBA have been in talks with Cowes Week Limited through the correct channels, and we have robustly put forward our thoughts and concerns regarding the trademark whilst respecting that sponsorship for a major regatta needs careful handling and CW2016 is very soon upon us. It may not be the fire and brimstone approach that certain individuals would prefer, but we have to work together as organisations to achieve a long lasting agreement that serves all sides, but above all the town of Cowes. We have agreed a time frame of September/October 2016 to reopen talks around the trademark issue of the words Cowes Week. The CBA Committee would welcome your thoughts on the issue and to this end we are currently producing a briefing document for you, laying out the bare facts and asking your opinions, ready for the start of the meetings to be held in September.
